Sinn Fein TD Louise O'Reilly is calling on the Government to introduce rent certainty in the area to help struggling households.
In the last quarter rents have increased by 4.2%.
Deputy O'Reilly said: "This trend in North County Dublin is continuing and is likely only to get progressively worse. In my clinics every week I meet people in distress due to rent increases, lack of available accommodation in their price range and, ultimately, homeless.

"We are seeing population increases which demonstrate the need for concurrent investment in our public services, which means ensuring that there is an adequate housing supply and certainty in rents.
"Some families who are on low income are paying up to 60% of their disposable income on rent. Rents in Dublin rose by an average of 4% in the final three months of 2016, the largest three-month increase on record ever. Who knows, in the next three months it could raise by another 4% but we cannot let this happen.
"A change must be made. We cannot let people become homeless due to not being able to pay rents and Sinn Fein are willing to do everything they can to prevent this from happening. We have proposed solutions to this which, despite the alarming trends visible to everyone including the Minister, the Government has refused to act on."
