Contractors MP Colman have started work on a new play park in L'Derry.

The park, located in Strathfoyle, is being funded by Derry City and Strabane District Council with support from the Department for Communities and RiverRidge Recycling through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, said: "The residents of Strathfoyle, stakeholders and Council have supported this project from its inception in meeting children and young people's needs so I know they will be delighted to see work commencing.

"When completed, this play provision will be a beautiful open space for families to come together and children to play and I am looking forward to seeing that finally happen later this year.

"I'd like to congratulate the local community representatives and Council Officers who have worked so hard to move the initiative to this stage and acknowledge the additional funding from the Department for Communities and Landfill Communities Fund without which this project wouldn't have been possible."

RiverRidge Recycling is contributing to the Strathfoyle play environment project and a spokesperson for the Garvagh based company expressed their pleasure at being able to enhance community life in Strathfoyle.
