The Green Party is calling for the proceeds of the sale of RTÉ’s Montrose site to be "ring-fenced for badly needed capital expenditure at the company".
The party made the call following the announcement that 8.5 acres of its Montrose site is to be sold, with housing to be developed on the site.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan TD said: "Covering ongoing losses at the company needs to be addressed separately in changes to the current funding model.
"It is important that RTÉ and the local authorities get the design of the development at the Montrose site right. It is essential that the new development is integrated into the local community and does not become an isolated gated community, for the better off.
"An organisation called Nimble Spaces is working in Callan, County Kilkenny on new ways of integrating people with supported housing needs into new communities. Ideally, the Montrose site could include such innovative housing solutions in the new community that is about to be built in the heart of Dublin 4."
