Ward And Burke Construction Starts Work On Sewer Network Project

Ward and Burke Construction have started work on a €6.8 million Sligo City water main rehabilitation and Pearse Road sewer network project.

Irish Water appointed the firm to carry out the work, which has commenced on Cleveragh Road with an estimated completion date of 07 April for this section of the project.

The project team expect to start some preliminary works on Tonaphubble Lane next week.

The scheme will benefit residents and businesses by reducing leakage and bursts and improving water quality and supply to consumers and has an estimated completion date of May 2018.

Irish Water's Regional Information Specialist Sean Corrigan said: "The project team will notify the local community in advance of planned works in their areas and provide contact details should they have any queries. The team are working closely with businesses to minimise any potential disruption."

Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Cllr Hubert Keaney said: "The partnership between Irish Water and Sligo County Council will lead to significant improvements in terms of network performance, leak reduction and security of supply, which will be universally welcomed by local householders and businesses. I want to commend the project team for their work to date, and I also want acknowledge the patience and understanding of the people directly affected by the ongoing contract work."

The project involves the replacement and rehabilitation of approximately 8.7km of ageing water mains, the installation of 1.5km of foul and storm sewers in the Pearse Road area and the replacement of all service connections including any lead services encountered.
