Sinn Féin has condemned a fuel laundering incident at Belregan in Co Louth.

Five containers of diesel sludge were abandoned in the area and Gerry Adams TD is urging anyone with information to contact An Garda Síochána.

He said: "The Gardaí and customs have made enormous progress in the last year in tackling fuel laundering and smuggling.

"However, there are clearly still criminal elements determined to pollute the environment with their toxic sludge.

"The dangers created by this sludge and the cost of clearing it must be condemned."
