Eirgrid Announces Sponsorship With CIGRÉ

Ireland's electricity transmission system operator Eirgrid has announced it is sponsoring the Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRÉ).

CIGRÉ Symposium is currently hosting a two day conference in Dublin which started on Wednesday, 31 May, and ends on Thursday, 01 June.

Founded in 1921, CIGRÉ is an international non-profit association for promoting collaboration with engineering experts from around the world.

The conference will address the issues facing power systems at a national and global level.

"I am delighted to welcome CIGRÉ to Dublin at this exciting time in the evolution of power systems. I believe we are approaching a great turning point," said Fintan Slye, CEO, EirGrid and a speaker at the conference. "The core structure of the electricity industry has not changed much over nearly 100 years, but advances in technology and communication will have a dramatic impact on how we deliver our services. We will be seeking to influence behaviours of residential, commercial and industrial consumers in a manner which aligns their needs with the needs of the system. This means change right across our business – in system planning, grid development, and market operation."
