Construction Work Complete On 30 New Homes In East Belfast

Construction work on 30 new homes in east Belfast has been completed.

Housebuilder Hagan Homes built the new homes on the Newtownards Road and Habinteg Housing Association acquired the development for £3.3 million.

Construction of the 30 two-bedroom apartments on the 1.6-acre site started in September 2016 and approximately 50 construction jobs were created.

Jamesy Hagan, Managing Director of Hagan Homes, said: "There were a number of demolished buildings on the Upper Newtownards Road site when we initially purchased it and it was a complete eyesore. We believe that our housing development has greatly improved the whole look of Dundonald. The local community recognises that Hagan Homes builds affordable, quality, stylish homes and that we achieve this by appointing award-winning architects, interior designers and craftspeople.

"Habinteg Housing Association expressed an interest in purchasing the completed development as they felt the accommodation was in line with their ethos of providing high quality housing for local communities. Habinteg had recently acquired properties at our Scotch Quarter development in Carrick and during this sale we were impressed with their approach and attention to detail, so it was a natural fit in terms of the acquisition of the Upper Newtownards Road development."

Darren McKinney, Chief Executive of Habinteg Housing Association said: "Habinteg is an ambitious and expanding organisation with in excess of 2,000 properties currently in management. We aim to build or purchase high quality housing in areas of high housing need. The purchase of the Upper Newtownards Road development for general needs and active elderly accommodation helps us realise our vision through reducing the housing need in this area and strengthening the community by providing 'Homes for All'."

The main contractor for the project was Warrenpoint based Eden Contractors Limited.
