The Taoiseach has confirmed water charges will be refunded to customers by the end of this year.
Sinn Féin spokesperson on water Eoin Ó Broin TD welcomed the announcement and said it "demonstrates the abject failure of Government policy on water and confirms what many of us have been arguing all along"
He said: "The Taoiseach has indicated that the refunds will come from. 2017 expenditure and not impact on budget 2018. It is important that he spells out clearly where this money is coming from. It is important that the payment of the refunds does not in any way affect key priority areas such as health and housing."
