Sinn Fein has described the latest homeless figures as "shocking and shameful".
The data, by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), revealed 765 children under the age of four are homeless in Ireland.
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Children and Youth Affairs, Denise Mitchell TD, said: "The numbers of families becoming homeless is far exceeding the number who are moving out of homelessness. This means the housing and homelessness crisis is getting worse day-by-day and the Government simply is not doing enough to provide social and affordable housing.
"No child in this State should have to grow-up homeless. We need to see the Government introducing effective rent-controls as well as working with local authorities to build social and affordable housing and ensuring quick turn-arounds to bring vacant homes back into use."
