Plans for a €7m solar energy project by Gaelectric on a site in Dublin have been rejected.
Fingal County Council said it would not set an unwanted precedent and would contravene a zoning objective to preserve the rural landscape.
The 'Mainscourt' scheme would have cost €6.8m to develop and would take a total of nine months to build.
In a statement the council said: "Due to its scale, and notwithstanding the mitigation measures proposed, the proposal would alter significantly the prevailing land use in the area, which is agriculture, and would represent an incongruous and dominant feature on the rural landscape."
