Call For Insurance Firms To 'Deliver On Their Responsibilities' To Policy Holders

Sinn Fein has called on insurance firms to deliver on their responsibilities to their policy holders for residents in Donegal affected by flooding.

Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald said families have been left traumatised after their homes were hit by flooding and said some people are already facing difficulties securing policy entitlements.

She said: "During my visit to Inishowen yesterday I met a number of families whose homes have been destroyed by last week's floods. Those with home insurance are already experiencing difficulty securing policy entitlements. This is absolutely unacceptable.


"Following the floods the Government pledged to support all those affected and this commitment must be delivered on.

"The solutions needed for flood victims are complex and require supports from government and local agencies beyond what is currently being provided by the humanitarian schemes.

"It is critical that the Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief put in place all necessary funding and supports for these flood victims, and he demands that insurance companies deliver on their responsibilities to their policy holders in Donegal."
