The Green Party in Northern Ireland has raised serious concerns that drinking water could be contaminated by the illegal landfill site in Mobuoy, Co L'Derry.
Party leader Steven Agnew made the admission following the recent flooding in the North West last week.
He said: "The River Faughan now flows through the illegal landfill site which is a dangerous development.
"The drinking water fears highlight the fact that we are still to deal with an illegal landfill site the size of 66 football pitches.
"The Mobuoy site needs to be remediated and a public enquiry held into the full of extent of waste crime across Northern Ireland.
"Environment Ministers from both the DUP and Sinn Fein have prevented this public enquiry since it was first unanimously voted for by the Assembly in March 2014. This represents a serious failure to get to grips with waste crime and environmental protection.
"The flooding has exposed the continuing public health dangers and environmental dangers that the Mobuoy landfill site poses."
