Cork County Council has welcomed the announcement that the Cork - Limerick M20 motorway has now gone to planning stage.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed the news and he said it will also be included in the Government's Strategic Infrastructure Plan.
Cork County Council Mayor Declan Hurley said: "The plan will see €20 million committed to the scheme, which will now go through a phase of planning and design before construction commences, with a two to three year time frame. The M20 motorway between Cork and Limerick will provide connectivity and enable the realisation of a number of opportunities for social, economic and tourism growth between both cities."
