Plans were recently announced that a Japanese hotel chain was interested in acquiring the development on Sean McDermott, however Senator Catherine Ardagh has called for a memorial to be erected.
She said: "The grim details of the disturbing experiences endured by hundreds of women resident in the former 'Gloucester Street' Magdalene Laundry were an integral part of this inquiry.

"The gross unfairness of the indefinite incarceration in the laundry marked a grave breach of the human rights and dignity of the women working in the inner city laundry for over one hundred years.
"In 2015, the Government committed to fully implement all of the recommendations made by Mr Justice Quirke in his Magdalen Commission Report.
"A suitable memorial including a monument and museum on this site to honour and commemorate the victims was one of Justice Quirke’s recommendations, yet this fact has been blatantly ignored by those in Dublin City Council.
"It goes without saying that the Government is yet to act on fulfilling its promise to survivors, the families of victims and representative groups."
