Refurb Work At Health Centre In Donegal Almost Complete

Construction News Image
Refurbishment work is almost finished at a health centre in Donegal.

Qigley's Point health centre has been closed since August last year after it was damaged by severe flooding.

HSE has now confirmed the facility will officially open at the end of March.

Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal Charlie McConalogue welcomed the announcement, however he said the government's response has "not been good enough".

He said: "The damage caused to the health centre this summer has resulted in the cancellation of the satellite GP service, which serves local residents. This has caused major upheaval for older people and people who are not fully mobile as they have found it incredibly difficult to access GP services. The closure of the health centre has also increased pressure on GP services in Moville.

"People in Inishowen are still suffering the effects of last August's flooding however, I am pleased that the HSE has taken account of the importance of this service to the local community and saw fit to expedite works following my representations.

"There are still a number of challenges facing residents in Inishowen in the wake of the floods, and although the government Ministers took a trip to the peninsula, the government response as a whole has not been good enough. I will be continuing to work on the behalf of all those affected to ensure that this Government follows through on its commitments to people in the affected areas."
