Sinn Fein has called for more "effective measures" to be put in place following the rapid rise in the illegal disposal of waste tyres.

MLA Cathal Boylan called for a central register of all tyres to ensure they don't end up on bonfires or illegally dumped.

He said: "The creation of a central register should be created to track all tyres from their manufacture, sale, throughout the life of the tyre, right to safe disposal.

"This would allow us to effectively track all tyres to make sure they do not cause environmental problems and would also provide information to enforce any breach of the regulations."
