Green Party Hits Out After 69% Of Rental Homes Below Standard In Fingal

The Green Party has hit out after it was revealed that 69% of rental homes inspected in Fingal last year failed to meet the required standards.

Councillor David Healy said: "While we welcome the fact that Fingal has dramatically increased the amount of inspections of private rented tenancy units it undertakes, the number of units that do not pass this inspection continues to be far too high. In 2017 alone, of the 811 inspections that were undertaken, 559 did not meet the standard. That's a failure rate of 69%."


Fingal doubled the number of private rented tenancy inspections it undertook between 2016 and 2017. That number has increased even more in the first three months of 2018.

Councillor Roderic O'Gorman called for an advertising campaign to be established to highlight how the council can inspect a rented home.

He said: "Many people in private rental accommodation may be vulnerable due to economic conditions, or perhaps English is not their primary language. We need to do as much as we can to inform these people that they have basic rights regarding the home that they rent."
