Concerns Raised Over Prefabricated Buildings Being Used By Schools

Sinn Féin has raised concerns over the number of prefabricated buildings still being used by schools throughout Ireland.

TD Gerry Adams submitted a series of Parliamentary Questions seeking the number of prefabricated buildings still in use in Louth, and the number of schools still waiting on the go-ahead for major refurbishments.


He said: "We know that 575 schools across the state have applied for major refurbishments.

"I have also asked for the detail of the Department of Education's plans for the new school for to be built for Laytown/Drogheda.

"How much progress has been made in the planning process, and when does the Minister expect that the school will open? I have also asked the Minister who will build this new school.

"In January the British construction company Carillion, which was part of a Public Private Partnership consortium, collapsed leaving a serious question mark over the construction and opening of six large scale school buildings in Wexford, Wicklow, Bray and Carlow."
