Irish Water is to begin construction work to improve the water mains in Kilteevan Village, Co Roscommon this week.
The work includes the replacement of over 850 metres of old, damaged pipes with new, heavy plastic pipes.
Once complete, local residents will have an improved water supply, water pressure and reduced leakage.
The works are part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme which will reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing ageing water mains over the next four years.
The contract is being carried out by Roscommon County Council and will take approximately eight weeks to complete.
Water Network Regional Lead, Dave Murphy, said: "This project will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the street/road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply."
