Farrans Construction is set to begin work to replace over 1.1km of damaged iron water pipes with brand new heavy, plastic pipes in Cloontagh, Clonmany, Co Donegal.

The works will improve water supply, water pressure and reduce leakage for local residents. They will take approximately five weeks to complete.

The project is part of Irish Water's National Leakage Reduction Programme which will reduce the high level of leakage across the country by fixing or replacing ageing water mains over the next four years.

Some short-term water shut offs are expected during the duration of the works.

Water Network Regional Lead, Declan Cawley, said: "This section of works will take place along the local county road in the vicinity of Cloontagh National School for 1.1 kilometres and will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead, these will be replaced as part of this improvement work."
