Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin has criticised the "chronically low" housing supply after new figures were published from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The new CSO Report on New Dwelling Completions shows that 14,446 dwellings were completed in 2017. According to Deputy Ó Broin "this is contrary to Paschal Donohoe's claim earlier this year that 17,000 new homes were completed".
He added: "The delivery of 3,526 new dwellings for the first quarter of 2018 looks promising, however increasing supply itself does not guarantee affordability.
"Not one of the new dwellings delivered either in 2017 or the first quarter of 2018 is an affordable home because the government has no affordable housing scheme in place.
"Having access to a more accurate data source is an important first step in tracking the true delivery of some much needed new homes."
