Construction work is to begin to deliver Navan's first ever cantilevered bridge next week, 18 June.
A new four-metre wide cycle/pedestrian structural steel bridge will be cantilevered from the existing "New Bridge" masonry stone arch bridge, resulting in the appearance of a boardwalk spanning over the River Boyne.
A new shared cyclist/pedestrian surface will be provided on the Kentstown Road to link the new bridge to the junction of Convent Lane, with upgraded public lighting throughout.
In addition, new footpaths and a raised table pedestrian crossing at the junction of the Convent Lane and Kentstown Road will also be built.
Work is expected to be completed in December.
The new builds will improve safety, encourage more people into the town centre, and make Navan town centre more accessible. The project will benefit pedestrians and cyclists at the "New Bridge" in Navan and students attending St Michael's Loreto Secondary School.
Road closures and traffic management plans will be in place throughout the duration of the project.
