Only six out of 15 Irish Governmental departments provide electrical car charging points for vehicles, Sinn Féin have revealed.

The party's TD for Wicklow, John Brady, received a breakdown on the availability of e-car charging points at each Department office through Parliamentary reply.

Deputy Brady has now called on the Government to lead by example and install e-car charging points at all Department offices "at the very least".

"Despite a number of measures to encourage the purchase of electric cars, only six out of the fifteen Departments provide e-car charging points," he said.

"Currently across all Department buildings both in Dublin and elsewhere across the State, there are eight e-car charging points. This includes Department offices for Health, Agriculture,, Children & Youth Affairs, Housing, Planning & Local Government, Communications, Climate Action & the Environment and Transport, Tourism and Sport. None of the remaining nine Department offices provide the facility.

"While the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment have introduced a range of incentives to promote electric cars such as the Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant and the Electric Vehicle Purchase Grant, there is only one e-car charging point at their office.

"For a Government aiming to ensure that all new passenger cars are zero emission vehicles by 2030, they will need to do much more than throw money."
