Fianna Fáil's Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan, has called upon the Government to develop a new fire station for Macroom in Co Cork.
Mr Moynihan, who made the call after a recent fire injured two members of the Cork Fire Service, said the current station's site is "highly unsuitable" due to its town centre location, meaning access can at times be severely restricted.
"The new site near Millstreet Cross has already secured planning permission," he said.
"We must now wait for the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government to allow the project go out to tender.
"This process needs to be expedited as quickly as possible. The local community want to real, tangible progress made on this really important piece of local infrastructure. I have raised this issue a number of times in the Dáil and I will continue to pursue it as a matter of urgency."
