Significant Progress Made On Greystown/Malone Flood Alleviation Scheme

Construction News Image
Significant progress has been made on the £4 million Flood Alleviation Project in the Greystown/Malone area of South Belfast, with work expected to commence on the Upper Malone Road shortly.

The NI Water scheme involves upgrading the existing combined sewers and the DfI Rivers culvert from Upper Malone Road to Finnis Close, which will reduce the risk of 'out of sewer' flooding and environmental pollution in the area.

The project is being carried out by BSG Civil Engineering and the Department for Infrastructure Rivers on behalf of NI Water.

Sewer installation works are progressing well along Greystown Avenue towards the Upper Malone Road with Greystown Avenue remaining closed until the middle of November.

Construction works will shortly be commencing on the Upper Malone Road, starting with trial excavations, and the installation of a temporary traffic island to facilitate traffic management. This will be followed by sewer laying across the Malone Road, under a temporary lane closure, with two-way traffic maintained with temporary traffic signals. This work will be undertaken at weekends to minimise disruption, starting on Saturday 22 September and running until late November.

Throughout this period, sewer laying work will be carried out on weekdays on the Upper Malone Road.
