Engineering students from the Dublin Institute of Technology have visited the live construction site at DIT Grangegorman as part of their education programme.
DIT has prioritised linking theory and practice as a key component of the programmes in Civil and Structural Engineering.
Two new buildings, the Central Quad and East Quad, are being developed on the site by Sisk & Son and FCC Ireland. They will provide academic space for 10,000 students and 600 staff, as well as state of the art facilities for the DIT Colleges of Sciences and Health, Arts and Tourism and for the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The DIT students observed the current work on site, including basement construction, precast and post tensioned concrete slabs, insitu concrete columns and civil and drainage works. They were able to experience the atmosphere and dynamics of a live site whilst having all technical queries answered by the construction team.
The DIT Grangegorman buildings are expected to be ready for occupation by the 2020/21 academic year.
