NI Water's £5 million project to improve the sewerage infrastructure in the Ormeau area of Belfast is making major progress.
Work is taking place around Ormeau Avenue, Dublin Road, Bruce Street, Sandy Row and sections of the lower Ormeau Road as part of the project.
The construction of the new reinforced concrete underground pumping station on Hardcastle Street is nearing completion, with road reinstatement also underway. The road will be fully reopened on 26 November, but further works are planned in early 2019.
Pipe installations are continuing along Ormeau Avenue, Cromac Street, and Hope Street. Similar works are expected to start on Hope Street in January 2019.
When complete, this investment will significantly reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding in this area of Belfast during periods of heavy rainfall. Environmental pollution will also be reduced, and the water quality in the Blackstaff Culvert and River Lagan will be enhanced.
