Fox Building and Engineering has commenced work to replace Monaghan Town's Blackwater Bridge.
The work will involve demolishing the existing bridge and replacing it with a new new three span structure.
Blackwater Bridge carries the N2 National Road over the Blackwater River just north of Monaghan Town.
Approximately 300m of the road at either side of the bridge will be re-aligned as part of the project. Further works also include installing new road drainage, street lighting, road markings and signage.
A temporary diversion route of the N2 will be implemented, along with a temporary bridge crossing of the river Blackwater.
Monaghan County Council is delivering the project with contractor Fox, funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
The works are expected to take 18 months to complete.
