Plans have been approved to build 3,500 homes on the Poolbeg peninsula in Dublin.
The Poolbeg West development will also have a quarter of all properties earmarked for social and affordable housing.
It will be located on 15 hectares of land, replacing the old Irish Bottle and Fabriza sites.
The decision by An Bord Pleanála on the development has been met with large support from local politicians and councillors.
Labour Senator Kevin Humphreys, a local supporter of the development, has now called on Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy to fast track funding for the the social and affordable homes included in the plan.
"I also welcome that this decision has laid down controls on the build to rent model. This development will allow a sustainable community to grow up just 25 mins outside of the City Center," Senator Humphreys added. "Dublin City should always be maintained as a place for people to work and live. Such developments will contribute to that.
"I am calling on the Minister to immediately provide the necessary funding for the social and affordable homes and to fast track, this most desperately needed housing development for Dublin City South."
