Cratloe Wood in County Limerick has won a 2019 National RDS forestry award.
The Coillte wood was named the winner in the Multipurpose Forestry category, which is open to individuals and organisations that are expanding or developing existing or new forest habitats through natural and environmentally sensitive methods.
Judges took into account the planning and management of the area, ecological awareness, social benefit, silviculture methods, control of grazing animals and invasive species, as well as sensitive felling and thinning.
Coillte's Cratloe Wood property is over 700 hectares in extent and located just a short drive west of Limerick, close to the world famous Bunratty Castle.
There is an extensive road network throughout the wood suitable for walking as well as a playground and picnic site for visitors.
