Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has become the third local authority in the Dublin region to approve a Climate Change Action Plan.
This comes after South Dublin County Council and Dublin City Council approved similar plans.
Each of the four Dublin Local Authorities has worked with Codema - Dublin's Energy Agency and the Dublin Metropolitan CARO office on developing individual Draft Climate Change Action Plans that outline how each local authority will act to prevent and adapt to the effects of climate change.
The Council has committed a further €150,000 in the 2019 budget to support this action plan, which focuses on five key areas; Energy and Buildings, Transport, Flood Resilience, Nature-Based Solutions and Resource Management.
An Cathaoirleach Cllr Ossian Smyth stated: "Climate change is the biggest global challenge of this century. In publishing our Climate Change Action Plan and declaring this emergency we have signalled our intention to show leadership and ambition as we seek to preserve the world as we know it for generations to come."
As well as the Climate Action Action Plan, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown councillors also declared a Biodiversity and Climate Change Emergency.
