A flooding alleviation scheme has been delivered in Lisburn, protecting three large commercial properties.
The work, which was completed close to the main Belfast to Dublin railway line, also preserved critical infrastructure in the area.
Northern Ireland firm FP McCann installed 290m of in-situ reinforced floodwall construction, as well as 180m of precast box and pipe culvert to divert the existing water course and dramatically increase the flow capacity of the existing network. The construction of the flood defence wall provides protection for commercial properties when there is a high risk of flooding and increases the storage available in the low-lying flood plain.
Key challenges included the works crossing through several land ownerships, thus requiring extensive landowner liaison and careful planning in advance of the crane and deep excavation works.
