The number of people registered homeless across Ireland has fallen over the last month but remains over 10,000.

Approximately 10,172 people are living in state-funded emergency accommodation, according to the June report. Over 3,600 children are also classified as homeless.

Despite the slight decrease on the May figures, Sinn Féin representative Eoin Ó Broin condemned the Department of Housing report.

He said: "This is the fifth month in a row that the total number of people officially classified as homeless by the Department of Housing has been over 10,000. This shows once again that the government's response to the homeless crisis is failing.

"We support Focus Ireland's call for the government to urgently review its policies aimed at tackling the homelessness crisis."
