A new recreational woodland area is set to be developed in Westport, County Mayo.
This project will see Knockranny Wood converted and restored to make it fully accessible to the public.
Work will include converting 8.8 ha from conifer forest to native woodland; developing 2.4km new looped walking trails within the 27.5 ha property; creating one dedicated entrance to include a small car park; and building a pedestrian access link to facilitate access from the adjoining Greenway.
National forestry business Coillte will develop the site as a 'NeighbourWood' in partnership with local people and other interested groups, for public use and enjoyment.
Mayo County Council, the Knockranny residents association and local businesses will also work on the project.
