A multi-million euro flood relief scheme for King's Island in Limerick has been updated following a comprehensive consultation period.
The plans include alterations to the initial scheme, including the contouring of the proposed embankment with new circular walkway and the creation of walkways linking St. Mary's Park. Other changes involve the retention of the outer walkway, retention of mature trees along the River Abbey, and the relocation of pitches and development of new pitches for Star Rovers.
When complete, this scheme will ensure the entire Island benefits from a 1 in 200 year standard of protection which is a height in excess of the 2014 flood. It will also be designed to be adaptable to climate change, and in particular the potential impacts of rises in sea levels.
These updated plans will go on public display at an information event at Limerick City and County Council's Small Exhibition Room on Thursday 29 August from 4pm until 8pm.
The public will help shape the plans and provide feedback before a planning application is submitted to An Bord Pleanála in the coming months.
