The government has been called to clarify the lack of progress on a new primary school in Kanturk, County Cork.

Despite claims the OPW had given approval to put the school project out to tender last month, the tender documents have yet to be issued.

Local Fianna Fáil representative Michael Moynihan has called for further clarity on the mixed messages.

"On the one hand, we have claims that approval has been given to put the project to tender, while in direct correspondence with me, Minister Joe McHugh confirms that 'the tender documents have not yet issued due to the necessity to make a technical specification amendment to them'.

"This is a very important project in the local community and I want to ensure that it is progressed as quickly as possible, however I am concerned about the mixed messages which have emerged over the past number of weeks.

"I am seeking assurances that this project will be progressed without any further delay and I will be contacting the Minister again to clarify the current situation," concluded Deputy Moynihan.
