Locals in the County Mayo village of Murrisk are set to benefit from a new water supply.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, announced the approval of the Murrisk Community Water Connection.

This project will lead to 350 houses in the West Mayo village being included on the annual Rural Water Programme.

Welcoming the announcement, Mayo County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Brendan Mulroy, said: "It's fantastic that the people of Murrisk will have a high quality piped water supply to 350 houses. High quality drinking water and water for washing will soon be pumped into the homes and that will make all the difference in the world for those families.

"The people of Murrisk will get the water supply they deserve and when the project is completed it will be a huge boost to the economy of the area, particularly tourism."

This scheme is being delivered by Mayo County Council, Murrisk Community, Irish Water and the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
