The development of the stalled £4.8 million Lagan Gateway project is set to restart with a new contractor.

Lagan Construction Group, which was originally on board to deliver the work, went into administration last year, throwing the project into serious doubt.

Work is now recommencing on site with the new contractor.

Delivering an update on the project, SDLP Botanic Cllr Gary McKeown said: "People in the area regularly ask me what is happening after work halted and the project came to a standstill.

"There has been considerable antisocial behaviour on the vacant site and I have been working with the community, police and council officers to address this issue, both for the wellbeing of nearby residents, and also to reduce the risk for those involved given the dangers at the site.


"A new contractor now has been appointed and work is recommencing on-site. A public information event has been arranged involving the key project leads which will enable residents to get an update on all aspects of the programme and to raise any queries or concerns they have. I encourage anyone who has an interest to call by and find out what is happening."


The information session is taking place on Tuesday 22nd October in Belfast Boat Club, Lockview Road, between 12 midday and 8pm. It will allow residents to talk to key project representatives about the Lagan Gateway project itself and wider issues in the area including antisocial behaviour and site works.
