Construction on a £20 million leisure centre in east Belfast is almost complete.

Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre is set to open to the public this December on the site of the former Robinson Centre on Montgomery Road.

It will be the new aquatics centre for Belfast with facilities including a 25 metre gala pool, a diving pool with moveable floor, a 140 station gym, a sports hall, a multi-purpose room, a cafe and a community facility.

A previous community consultation identified an increase in demand for wet provision resulting in the decision to focus largely on aquatics at the new centre, however the site will also boast a spin studio and a range of outdoor facilities.

The complex will be managed by GLL, the social enterprise that operates the Better gym and fitness centres across the city and is part of Belfast City Council's £105 million Leisure Transformation Programme which aims to improve health and wellbeing by providing affordable, first class leisure facilities and services across Belfast.
