Plans have been approved for a new state-of-the-art extension at Skerries Community College.
The scheme will see three new classrooms built at the Fingal facility along with a modern science lab and prep area and art room. Three new offices and a number of blocks of toilets will also be delivered as part of the work.
Education Minister Joe McHugh was joined at the school by Fine Gael bye-election candidate, Senator James Reilly to mark the announcement.
Senator Reilly said: "This will make a big difference to the school and wider communities.
"I am acutely aware of the enrolment pressures facing schools, parents and students here and Minister McHugh has assured me that local principals are being contacted by officials in his Department to discuss these issues and agree a way forward."
Minister McHugh added: "I appreciate there is some anxiety among parents about a shortage of places in north Dublin but I am hopeful we can find solutions.
"Part of that is investing in extensions and providing bigger and better facilities like this in Skerries, but part of it is also sitting down with principals to assess exactly how many places they have and if some short term accommodation is needed.
"We have sorted issues like this before and we can do it again."
