Mechanical Breakdown Disrupts Water Supply In Athlone

A mechanical breakdown at Athlone's water treatment plant has caused a potential disruption to supply.

Irish Water and Westmeath County Council have deployed a team to the site, with repairs expected to be completed at some point today, 11 December.

All customers in Athlone have been urged to conserve water while these essential repairs are underway.

A restriction was placed on the supply to protect the water levels in Annagh reservoir and at present customers on the East side of Athlone including; Athlone Town, Baylin, The Ories, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Glasson, Bonavalley and surrounding areas have supply however it is likely that Mount Temple will experience water outages today.


Customers in Athlone town who are supplied via the Coosan reservoir are currently experiencing reduced water pressure and may experience intermittent disruption to their supply as repairs continue. Customers in Coosan, Clonbrusk, Hillquarter, Montree, Assumption Road, Beechpark and Arcadia are affected.

Customers on the west side of Athlone Town including Connaught street, Roscommon Road, Galway Road, Baylough, Deerpark Road and surrounding areas may also be impacted by intermittent disruption to their water supply.

Once the repairs are complete, it may take a number of hours for normal water supply to resume for all customers.
