Work Continues To Solve Water Issue In Cork

An update has been delivered on the status of a Boil Water Notice issued in east Cork.

A Boil Water Notice for areas served by the Whitegate Public Water Supply has been in place since 27 November following issues with the treatment process caused by an increase in turbidity in the raw water supplying the treatment plant.

Following consultation with the HSE, the notice has now been lifted for 3,000 people in the areas of Shanagarry and to the south and east of Midleton. In these areas water supplies have been successfully redirected from other sources.


The Boil Water Notice remains in place for all other areas in the Whitegate Public Water Supply.

Irish Water and Cork County Council are working to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

Neil Smyth, Irish Water Operations Lead said: "We wish to apologise to the homes and businesses impacted by this Boil Water Notice. There have been previous water quality issues on this supply and we acknowledge the significant inconvenience this causes. We would like to assure the public that we are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Our priority is the provision of safe, clean drinking water and protecting public health."
