Public realm plans for an Island of Geese site in Tralee are set to enter the first stage of development.
Kerry County Council has unveiled plans for the project, which will see the site of the former Denny Bacon Factory site redeveloped into an office block with retail space. Proposed public realm space will also cover approximately one-third of the space, as well as a linear park with an appropriate balance of hard and soft landscaping.
The developer will look to retain the original brick chimney stack of the building and extend its heights from 15m to 32m resembling its estimated original height.
The plans are on public display at Council offices at Rathass and Prince's Quay until Friday 20 March under the Part VIII planning process. The details will also be available on the council website.
Welcoming the proposals, Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Jim Finucane said: "It is wonderful to see proposals taking shape for work on the Island of Geese site. This is a hugely important site for Tralee town centre and it represents a great opportunity to grow and develop the wider town centre. Since the site was cleared last year, there has been significant interest and excitement in Tralee about how the space will be developed. I look forward to considering the views of members of the public."
Following the completion of the public consultation on the plans, a report will be presented to councillors in the Tralee Municipal District for their consideration.
