Work Commences On £130,000 Road Scheme In Newtownards

Contractors have started work on a £130,000 road improvement project in Newtownards, Co Down.

The work commenced on Belfast Road/Hardford link/Church Street/Blair Mayne Road junction.

The scheme involves a full upgrade of the signalised junction including puffin crossings, new paving and dropped kerbs.

For the first phase, it will be necessary to implement a series of lane closures taking place during the day and at night:

• Lane closures 9:30am to 4:30pm each day will remain in place until 14 November 2020

• Vehicles will be prohibited from turning left from Church Street onto Blair Mayne Road North from Tuesday 22 September 2020 to Friday 2 October 2020, (10 nights) with restrictions taking place overnight each night from 7pm to 6am

During night works, a signed diversion will be via Hardford Link, William Street, Frederick Street, Circular Road, Nursery Road and Blair Mayne Road North.

For the second phase, it will be necessary to implement a series of road closures at night:

• Blair Maine Road North from U9006 Manse Road junction to C263 Belfast Road junction on Thursday 15 October 2020 overnight from 7pm to 6am

For traffic travelling from Kempstones Road roundabout, the diversion route will be Nursery Road, Frederick Street, Church Street.

Resurfacing works will take place from Monday 19 October 2020 to Friday 23 October 2020 overnight each night from 7pm to 6am and this will require the Belfast Road/Hardford link/Church Street/Blair Mayne Road junction to be closed.

Advanced warning signs for all road closures will be provided and diversion routes will be signed as necessary.
