Engineers Ireland has officially launched this year's search to recognise the country's most exciting and innovative young engineers.

The national body is now accepting entries for the 2021 Innovative Student and Graduate Engineer of the Year Awards, sponsored by Siemens.

The awards provide a platform for third-level students and graduates to showcase their engineering innovation excellence to a panel of professional engineers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs.

Along with winning one of the coveted awards, the winning student or student team will also win a share of a €1,500 prize fund.

Commenting on the awards, Gary O'Callaghan, CEO of Siemens, said: "Siemens is committed to ensuring that young people have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in meeting the challenges of a technology-led future. Through our longstanding partnership with Engineers Ireland, we are proud to demonstrate this commitment by providing a unique platform for Ireland's most innovative engineering students and graduates to demonstrate innovation and showcase creative thinking."

Encouraging students and graduates to submit a free entry into the awards, Caroline Spillane, Director General of Engineers Ireland, added: "Our current third-level engineering students will soon become the engineering leaders of tomorrow and will play a key role in developing innovative solutions to overcome issues in industry and society. I would encourage all eligible third-level engineering students to submit their entry prior to the 29 August deadline and to showcase the diversity and creativity of contemporary engineering."

All applicants must be a student member of Engineers Ireland at the time of entry to the competition and must be enrolled on a full-time level 7 or level 8 engineering qualification or undertaking a master's degree or PhD research.
