A Belfast City Centre street is set to close to traffic overnight next week to allow essential sewerage works to take place.

Waring Street will close on Monday 13 September for three nights from 9pm to 6am. A diversion route will be in place via Victoria Street, Dunbar Link, Great Patrick Street, York Street, Royal Avenue, Castle Place, High Street and Bridge Street.

This closure will allow NI Water to clean the sewerage system due to a build of up silt, inappropriate items and fat, oil and grease.

NI Water is consulting with businesses in the area alongside a mail drop to ensure all customers and businesses are kept informed to never pour fat, oil and grease down the sink or flush inappropriate items down the toilet.

The contractor McAllister Group will work to ensure minimal disruption throughout. Vehicular access for residents and businesses will be maintained but may be subject to slight delay, and pedestrian access will be available at all times.

Detailed traffic management arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure throughout the planning of these major works to minimise disruption to businesses, road users and the public.
