The seaside village of Castlerock in L'Derry is set to be boosted with a footway and road improvement scheme.
The Department for Infrastructure is investing £260,000 to improve Freehall Road from the Amenity Site to its junction at Mussenden Road. This involves the installation of a new 2.5m footway, improvement of sight lines, resurfacing of the carriageway and upgrading of drainage.
Work will begin on Monday 11 October, with traffic diversions in place throughout. To facilitate the work the Freehall Road will be closed to through traffic from the 18 October 2021 for a period of nine weeks. A diversion will be signposted via Mussenden Road, Sea Road and Castle Walk. There will be no disruption to the Amenity Site.
Welcoming the scheme, Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: "This significant investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of Freehall Road, to the benefit of local residents and those who travel through the area. I am delighted that the new footway being delivered by this scheme in Castlerock will greatly enhance provision for pedestrians providing further opportunities for active travel. I would like to thank local residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation and ask that they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these much needed works are completed."
