Work to develop a new footway and cycleway along the A2 Dundrum Road between Clough and Dundrum in Co Down is set to get underway.
The first phase of the project will begin on Monday 01 November, with work which involves widening 1.1 kilometres of existing footway to provide an upgraded combined footway/cycleway.
Welcoming the scheme, Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said: "This scheme is part of my commitment to the delivery of active travel schemes across the North and to making walking, wheeling and cycling a safer and more attractive option for people getting around. I am delighted that the new cycleway/footway being delivered by between Clough and Dundrum will greatly enhance provision for pedestrians and provide further opportunities for active travel.
"I would like to thank local residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation and ask that they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these much needed works are completed."
Work on the first phase of the scheme will take approximately six weeks with estimated completion expected in mid-December 2021.
Road users are advised that some lane closures will be required to facilitate the construction process and to take extra care in the vicinity of the works especially as we head into shorter daylight hours with darker mornings on the road network.
When complete the upgraded route will provide an improved facility in the Clough / Dundrum area to encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling at this location.
