Irish building materials giant Kingspan has announced a groundbreaking new partnership with Mercedes.
The firm has been named an Official Partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team, building on a relationship that has already seen Kingspan products used to help create high performance buildings around the world for Mercedes Benz.
Kingspan will chair a Sustainability Working Group for Mercedes-AMG Petronas. The working group's remit will be to draw together expertise from diverse fields to contribute to the team's objective of pioneering new approaches and technologies for emissions reduction in motorsport.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas has set a target of reducing CO2 emissions in its operations by 50 percent by 2022. The team's high-tech chassis factory in Brackley already uses renewable energy to power all its operations, while its Brixworth technology centre produces more than half of its electricity using solar panels and an on-site CCHP plant.
The ambitions of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team reflect Kingspan's own sustainability journey and targets which include net zero manufacturing by 2030 and a 50 per cent reduction in the CO2 intensity in primary supply partners by 2030.
