Historic Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff has unveiled its new Welding Academy.
The new Academy will see successful applicants secure a spot on a training programme that will lead to a classification society welding certification and full-time employment.
Held in partnership with Northern Regional College, the programme will have an element of classroom-based training followed by a two-week placement in the company.
Harland & Wolff is searching for candidates with a keen interest in engineering, prior welding experience or experience with welding codes that have lapsed and need renewed, and a level of competence in manual dexterity.
Candidates will also only be permitted onto the training programme on successful completion of an initial assessment that will test the skills required.
While the programme will initially only be offered at the Belfast site, Harland & Wolff has plans to expand in the near future.
Welders joining the company will have the opportunity to work across a variety of projects, including wind farm and energy fabrication, shipbuilding and ship repair.
Applications for the programme open on 09 February 2022 at 9am. To apply, prospective employees must send their CV to [email protected].
Steven Wright, General Manager of the Harland & Wolff Belfast shipyard, commented: "We are incredibly excited to be able to launch our new Welding Academy at our Belfast site. Continuing to work alongside Northern Regional College, we are committed to developing a pipeline of skills to build for the future. We now look forward to welcoming new talent onto our yard."
